City Increases Parking Meter Enforcement to 8pm in Mid-City and Sundays on El Cajon Boulevard
PARKING METER HOURS EXTENDED – MID-CITY UPDATE
The City of San Diego has made the decision to extend parking meter hours in the Mid-City Community Parking District (click for map):
Meter hours will be extended from 6 PM to 8 PM
Sunday enforcement begins on El Cajon Blvd only (not on side streets)
Rates remain the same: $2.50/hour
Crews will be updating signage over the next week — expected completion by Aug. 27.
This change is part of a broader parking reform package approved by City Council in June, allowing extended meter hours & Sunday enforcement in community parking districts.
Note: Only meters along El Cajon Blvd will have Sunday enforcement at this time. This does not include side streets off El Cajon Boulevard.
From the City of San Diego Transportation Staff:
Starting today (8/20), The City of San Diego Transportation staff will begin extending all parking meter hours within the Mid-City Parking District from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and extending meter hours to Sunday along El Cajon Boulevard.
This effort will involve updating the signage on the individual parking meters and updating any signage that reflects parking meter hours. Parking meter rates ($2.50/hour) will remain the same. It is expected this work may take up to one week, and will be completed by Wednesday, Aug. 27. Mid-City is the second community parking district where we will be extending time limits for metered parking. We will be extending time limits for all community parking districts and anticipated to be completed by the October 1st.
The parking reform package approved by the City Council in June gave the City authority to extend meter hours and days to include Sundays. El Cajon Blvd is the primary commercial corridor through the meter zone so the City will start enforcing Sundays there before looking at residential streets that could benefit from Sunday enforcement if a residential permit parking zone were first established. No other existing meter locations in Mid-City will be extended to Sunday enforcement as part of this implementation.
To bolster public awareness of this change, the City will distribute a news release this morning and also share through social media.
